Function Planning 101: A guide for planning your wedding …

Every bride can benefit from a little guidance when it comes to planning her wedding. There is always so much to do before the big day. Here is a handy check list for you to follow so hopefully you won’t feel too overwhelmed.

12 to 18 Months

  • Choose your venue then set your date.

A common misconception is setting a date first, only to be disappointed when your ideal venue

(Doyles Bridge Hotel) is already booked.

Finding a venue that suits for both ceremony and reception is even better.

Now that you have booked your venue and possibly your ceremony here at Doyles Bridge Hotel the rest is a guide for you to follow

  • Ceremony

Select your ceremony location and book your celebrant or minister

  • Photographer

Research and book your photographer/videographer

  • Book your DJ or Band

Your Venue should have a list of recommendations

9 to 12 Months

  • Choose your theme/style of Wedding you wish to have

When choosing the right theme for your wedding it is always best to consider what style will suit your venue. Work with your event manager for colours that will suit the room and your personality.

  • Book decorator if applicable
  • Groom to arrange wedding transport
  • Start selecting the wedding party
  • Select florist

6 to 9 Months

  • Begin planning honeymoon
  • Select bridesmaids dresses, shoes and accessories
  • Check hotel availability for guests
  • Order Groom & Groomsman attire
  • Order Wedding Cake
  • Make hair and Makeup appointments
  • Mothers to select dresses
  • Purchase wedding rings
  • Purchase Wedding shoes & Veil and all other accessories
  • Attend gown fitting with shoes

4 to 6 Months

  • Make sure all passports are in check if travelling overseas
  • Plan ceremony music
  • Order Invitations & stationary
  • Plan Menu & decorations
  • Book hotel for wedding night
  • Order accessories for reception eg: guest book, cake knife, garter etc.
  • Order favours

3 Months

  • select readers for ceremony if having them
  • select MC
  • purchase bridal party gifts
  • Finalise ceremony details
  • Check requirements for wedding license
  • If having bridal registry, then now is the time to register

2 Months

  • Mail out invitations
  • Touch base with service providers to keep peace of mind in check
  • Hair & Makeup trials
  • Acquire all forms for change of name and address etc. if applicable
  • Confirm honeymoon arrangements
  • Have rings engraved if doing so
  • Start grouping guests to imaginary tables(this is not as easy as people think)
  • Submit your intention to marry forms
  • Onsite meeting with photographer to go over location shots(if they haven’t been here before)

1 Month

  • Have a final fitting for gown & dresses
  • Organize a run sheet draft with Doyles or venue
  • Break in wedding shoes (wear socks)
  • Arrange for someone to take your wedding dress to dry cleaners after the wedding
  • Make arrangements to board any pets
  • Arrange for house sitter
  • Arrange for mail to be cleared
  • Finalise all details, delivery or set up times and payments with service providers

2 to 3 weeks

  • Pick up all dresses
  • Pack for honeymoon
  • Pick up flight tickets and organize travel money cards
  • Follow up on guests that have not RSVP’d
  • As you should have all RSVPs you now have final meeting with Doyles to organise table layout in room, dietary requirements and any other detail pertaining to your reception
  • We will give you a finalised run sheet for you to forward on to all other service providers

1 week

  • Give exact final numbers to Doyles and return floor plan and names of guests and seating arrangements
  • Finish packing for honeymoon
  • Make up wedding day emergency kit **
  • Groom haircut
  • Have facial, skin treatment, waxing, tanning
  • Have rehearsal if required
  • LOTS OF REST

2 days

  • Give gifts to bridal party
  • Drop off reception items to Doyles
  • Make any outstanding payments to service providers

The day before

  • Groom to pick up suits
  • Manicure, pedicure & massage
  • Quality time with family and bridal party

Survival kit **

  • Tissues
  • Mouthwash
  • Breath mints
  • Safety pins
  • Deodorant]\perfume
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Snacks
  • Band-Aids
  • Antacid chews
  • Small sewing kit
  • Thongs or ballet slippers
  • Panadol
  • Nail file or emery board
