Choosing a theme for your next party can be an exciting process for some and for others a bit overwhelming. So where do you start?

You may be throwing an engagement party, special birthday or an end-of-year work celebration and want to add some fun and atmosphere into it by having a theme.

Convey Your Party Style with a Theme

Coming up with a theme is like creating your own brand. A party should be fun and full of spirit so don’t be afraid to add a bit of boldness into your event!

First impressions count and when your guests arrive and see a room full of colour, glitz and glamour, there’s nothing more rewarding than hearing the compliments from your guests in appreciation of your efforts.

Put together a shortlist of theme ideas for your event, taking into consideration who and what the event is for and also the style and colours or your venue. You may want to get some ideas from your venue’s events coordinator – they’ll be able to provide you with information on the venue and expert advice.

How to Choose Your Party’s Theme

You can choose a theme from the latest trend, colours or traditional favourites or seasons. If you are organising an end of year work event you can also brainstorm with a few of your co-workers.

If it’s for a personal event think about the person who it is for – you don’t want them to like what you have created for them; you want them to love it!

Deciding on that perfect theme from your shortlist comes down to your style, budget and what décor you can find that suits your theme. Make sure you start getting organised early – you want to give yourself at least 4-6 weeks before the event for planning.

Get Decorating

Once you have chosen your theme everything will start to fall into place. Selecting your decorations and cake is much easier if you have already decided the theme for your party is gold, glitz and glamour.

Go on, be a little daring and wear that sparkly number that you’ve been hiding at the back of your wardrobe!

On-Trend Themes

A great way to keep up with the latest trends is to check out Pinterest and Google – you will be amazed at all the hints and DIY ideas you can find. To get you thinking creatively, why not start by searching:

  • Gatsby
  • Walking Dead
  • Neon Colours
  • Whimsical, romantic and Rustic themed weddings and tea parties
